EXCITING NEWS FROM HOLLYWOOD!
I entered a pair of screenwriting competitions within the last year. I'm proud to announce that the book adaptation of Evil Realms attained the Selected status for inclusion in the Screamwriting (not a typo) Festival for Horror scripts in February 2021. The Threat Nexus book adaption made the Quarter-Finals in the Page Turner Screenplays First 15 Pages contest. As the title states, screenwriters only enter the first fifteen pages of their screenplays for the competition. I received notes from a story reader who liked the script. He offered a few excellent suggestions, which I incorporated into the new draft and resubmitted the script. This result was a step up from the Evil Realms' placing. The First 15 Pages competition was open to all genres, not just horror scripts like the Screamwriting Festival. That meant the contest was more varied and Threat Nexus placed higher. I was and am very pleased by both projects' successes.
So, what's next? More competitions lurk on the horizon, most of them with story reader notes, though some have the choice and cost a small fortune. Another option exists where I can submit the entire script and, for those small fortunes, get a more in-depth critique. That could be an intermediary step for further constructive criticism before entering the completed script in another competition. We'll see as I study what contests loom on the horizon. Now, I don't adapt all my books to the big screen or even the ever-expanding landscape of streaming services. I only write adaptations for the books with the visual potential to fill that IMAX screen. I'll post further updates as plans coalesce.
